Behind the Stitches. Meet the Maker and the Mission

Behind every handmade item there is a person with a story. Many people see a finished toy or a book on a shelf and think it is just a product. They don't see the hours of work or the reason why these things were created in the first place. It is easy to buy a mass produced toy from a big store, but those items don't have a voice. They don't tell a story about a culture or a dream.

When you buy something without knowing the maker, you miss out on the connection. For a creator, it is hard to show the world that their work is more than just a hobby. If people don't understand the mission, they might see a handmade book as just another item for kids. Without sharing the "why" behind the stitches, the work stays quiet. It doesn't reach the people who truly care about heritage and handmade quality.

I want to change that and introduce myself properly. My name is Mariana, and I am the person behind the hooks and pages. I don't just make toys. I create what I call "paper ambassadors" of Ukraine. My mission started when I realized how hard it is for families living abroad to keep their culture alive. I wanted to give them a tool that is soft, warm, and easy to love. You can see my journey on my Instagram.

Every character I design and every story I write in my books has a piece of my home. When I made Sunny's Vyshyvanka, I wasn't just writing a book. I was building a bridge for children to feel proud of their Ukrainian roots. Whether you are a maker looking for patterns or a parent looking for a gift, you are becoming a part of this mission.

From a small hobby to a big goal. I started crocheting as a way to find peace. Then I realized that my hands could do more than just make stitches. They could tell stories. This is how the idea of bilingual books and matching toys was born. I wanted to combine the tactile joy of a handmade toy with the educational value of a story. You can find all my guides in my Shopify store.

Why I choose to stay independent. Being an independent author and designer allows me to stay true to my message. I pick every color of yarn and every word in my books. I want to make sure that when you hold my work, you feel the warmth of a real person. This is not about big factories. It is about a community of people who value traditions.

Join the mission. Every time you share my work or crochet a toy from my pattern, you help spread the word about Ukrainian culture. You are helping a child somewhere in the world feel closer to their family history. It is a beautiful way to stay connected, no matter the distance.
